over the rainbow …

Got an old bookshelf needing some ‘refreshment’? I am loving this fabulous rainbow number.  Puts a smile on my face just looking at it.

Looks amazing here displaying dinnerware in a kitchen/dining area but I can also see it looking divine in a baby’s or kid’s room, showing off books and other favourite stuff.

And whilst we are on the subject of rainbows, we just HAD to share this little beauty.  Sure to take the grey out of your next rainy day …

Gotta get me one of those mats.

This is a project you can do on your own or have the little poppets help you out (provided they are past the “put-everything-in-your-mouth” phase).

Simply draw the letter of choice then glue a random selection of buttons over the top.  Frame in a white box frame or whatever frame takes your fancy and you have a terribly fabulous original artwork.  They look especially fab above a cot or bed.

nooks for books (and their owners)

There is a saying that “children are made readers on the laps of their parents” but I’m thinkin’ these little reading nooks would give mum and dad’s laps a run for their money.

All different in style but each with its own quirky features we love every one of them.  Which one is your favourite?

And whilst we are on the subject of reading (see what I did there?) how about this for a little weekend project.  IKEA (yes, them again) spice racks transformed with some paint and clever placement on the wall (or chest of drawers) make THE perfect book shelf.

Happy reading.

for lego lovers (and their mamas)

Mama of three boys = serious lego collection.

Take into account we also boast a substantial “vintage” collection that my in-laws saved from my hubby’s childhood (that’s another story) and I am always looking for clever clogs ideas that use these timeless coloured blocks in any way other than the norm.

Here are my three favourites;

Lego Key Chain Board Thingy
This is one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” ideas.  Simply attach a piece of lego to your key ring and a lego board to your wall and you’ll never need to scream “where are my keys” again.

Lego Maths
If your little one is not that interested in Maths, this is a great way to get their attention.  The dog wont eat their homework ever again …

Lego Play Table
We have done this using a cheapie bedside table (ours is IKEA but I have also seen them at other department stores for under $20).  Glue lego board onto the table to assist little ones to play at a suitable height, and (here is the best bit) keep the lego contained in one area. We have storage tubs under the table. Suitable for duplo through to lego.

livin’ in the seventies …

Featured in Better Homes & Gardens circa 1975, I would ABSOLUTELY love this nursery in my home today.  Gorgeous for a girl or boy, I am loving the open storage ideas and the fab striped floor boards.  Really, who doesn’t love a little bit of retro?

share and share alike

Kids sharing a space can be tricky, particularly if there is an age gap or they are different genders.  Check out this quirky and oh-so-fabulous room being shared by a boy and girl.

lovin’ the colours!

Avoiding “themes”, using white as the base and adding so much colour gives each bed and surrounding space its own sense of style, without clashing.

Do your kids share a room?  How do you make it work?

eye candy

Those of you who have followed us on facebook for the past couple of years know we love a bit of interior design eye candy.  Especially, of course, when it comes to spaces for kids.

So imagine our delight when we found this gorgeous play room that caters for both boys and girls.

We are loving the use of two different rugs to define the space, great storage options and a fab yellow airplane to boot!
